This week Wing Digital Marketing‘s second, InfluenceNow Twitter Chat (#InfluenceNow) focused on the Influencer battle between Tiktok and Instagram.
The chat takes part weekly, Thursdays, 4pm UK time, 10am Central USA, and 12pm Brazil (that’s where we reside) and allows participants to drop-in and out of the chat as they please.
As the questions are posted onto our founder’s Twitter account, we simultaneously share the questions on the Wing Digital Instagram account in the form of Stories, and also, in a trial, as a video on TikTok.
Here’s the round-up from our discussion.
Q1: Is influence marketing shifting away from IG to TikTok?
“Yes it is. TikTok is overtaking IG in popularity and we can see that in IG’s response. Younger people, but also older people are using TikTok more. Influencers need to adjust.” #influencenow, Tom Augenthaler.
Q2: Are static posts dead on social media and video now truly king?
“Yes, static posts are dying on #instragram. Its a fact. A well know #b2b influencer recently voiced his opinions about IG and how the platform is dying. Static posts are dead because they get little organic reach. Also, #tiktok is easier to use and grow on” Tom.
Q3: Are brands prioritising TikTok influencers over IG?
“Yes and no.
Sorry to sit on the fence but some creators simply feel more comfortable on IG. Some have also been on the platform longer & have more followers. This is where the brands are going wrong as they are concentrating yet again on follower numbers!!” Chris Henley.
Q5: Is the ROI with TikTok influencers better than that with IG influencers?
“Yes, engagement on TikTok is far superior because the platform is emphasizing growth (for now)” Tom Augenthaler.
“Like it has been from the off. Their approach was always awareness first, even down to their first forrays into the west through influencer marketing”, David Wing.
Q6: New platform features – when is enough, enough? Have we reached the saturation point?
“New features and general changes within a short period of time make it frustrating for everyone. It does seem at times that platforms are just copying each other” Chris Henley.
“Today we see google’s announcement re 3D virtual holographic video chats. The tech wheels will always be turning!” Evan Kirstel
“Until we reach every 80’s scifi kid’s dream life” David Wing.
Q8: As an advocate or expert, where would you encourage your brands to focus their influencer marketing efforts?
Agree with @EvanKirstel about #linkedin. Aside from that and TikTok, I suggest YouTube. YT now has shorts and handles to make tagging easier. Want proof? Many YouTubers have larger audiences than mainstream media shows” Tom Augenthaler.
